My friend Melanie and I were talking the other day about how much we love the movie The Holiday. We love the little stone cottage named Rosehill in the quaint English village and we have both decided we want to own it. Did you know that they built the cottage just for the movie and that it isn't really an actual house? It's just frame with curtains and a wreath.
They built each of the rooms on a stage lot where they filmed the majority of the interior shots. Designer James Radin did an amazing job decorating and he made it quaint and homey. Doesn't it make you want to put on a kettle of water for tea and curl up with a good book? This lovely stone cottage is exactly what I want in an English home one day. Oh to dream...

I have to say, I LOVE that movie and that cottage. On a day like today, where it's 100 degrees in Southern Indiana, I want to be there in the middle of December, curled up next to the fire with a good book.
ReplyDeleteAmanda, I totally understand. It's that same temp here in Alabama but with lots of humidity. I'm headed home to enjoy the A/C and good magazine!
ReplyDeleteI am disappointed that they never used a real cottage in the film - I thought it looked to good to be true when I watched the film - There must be hundreds of cottages scattered around the english countryside that they could have used, but I suppose not as quaint!!!! It's amazing the lengths they go to and the expense when filming - Great Film though!!!

ReplyDeleteI'm absolutely overwhelmed... that you blogged about this cottage! The Holiday is undoubtedly one of my top 3 favorite films as well. And this cottage is my dream house too... it is SO well designed. I was blown away when I watched the making of the film and knew that it was made for it. Gotta love The Holiday and it's makers! Thanks for the great photos!
