Halloween Music Mix

NPR has a reputation for putting great holiday music mixes together. This Halloween they have done it again! From Jakob Dylan and the Indigo Girls to Cab Calloway and John Lennon along with a little Gil Shaham thrown in for good measure. This Halloween music mix is sure to get you in the spooky mood for All Hallows' Eve. I hope you all have a ghoulish time tomorrow night!

Mandolinist Extraordinaire

Tonight I am going to see the awesomeness that is Chris Thile. If you've never heard of Thile, he is an extraordinary mandolin player from the group Nickel Creek (which is currently on hiatus) and Punch Brothers. I was fortunate enough to see him for the first time this past spring when he was performing in Birmingham with the Punch Brothers and it was the best live shows I've ever been to. This evening he is playing with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and is debuting his new mandolin concerto, playing some unaccompanied Radiohead and also Bartok's Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste. Should be a great show!

To Dry For

I love tea towels. I have a huge stash of vintage and eclectic towels at home and I about died when I saw this great site via decor8 yesterday. The site is called To Dry For and is based out of England. Here are a couple of my favorites from their collection. Enjoy!

Button Bird Embroidery

I found this cute button bird embroidery piece via Blue Moss yesterday and think it's such a cute idea. I think this may be a project for me for the very near future. Get yours over at RachellovesBob.

2010 Calendars

I've been seeing a lot of 2010 calendar ideas lately. It has inspired me to find my 2010 calendars early this year. I usually purchase a big one for my desk at work and a smaller one for home. Last year I purchased a JHill Design calendar for work and a generic English Garden calendar for the apartment. This year however, I think I am going to change it up a bit and purchase this tea towel calendar from Hello Handmade for home and frame it for my living room.

I also spotted a small Charlie Harper calendar at Barnes and Noble this weekend that I'd like to get to put above my desk at home.

Which leaves my work calendar and I've been eyeing the Cavallini & Co. calendar line which is always gorgeous and has a great vintage flare. I especially love the Flora & Fauna calendar for 2010.

Weekend, Here I Come!

Whew! What a crazy, busy week. It's been very busy at work this week and I am ready for a relaxing weekend. I might head over to Vulcan AfterTunes to see Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek fame this weekend, or I might just veg on the couch. I am excited about Halloween Movie Night with a bunch of friends' tonight. We're watching Dial M for Murder (a classic!).

Enjoy these pieces I saw over at please sir this week by the LaborLove Gallery. Some great nature inspired collages and I love the cardinal!

Color Me Pretty

If you haven't seen the Color Me Pretty series over at decor8, then you are definitely missing something! Leslie Shewring does an amazing job of piecing together great colors and items of inspiration. This week's edition has a great study on the colors of turquoise and a rusty orange. A great scheme for Fall. To see the rest of the pictures visit decor8.

A Vintage-Inspired Look

The Country Living British Edition always inspires me and makes me want to move to England even sooner than the plan in my mind allows. The September issue brought with it a lovely feature called 'A Retro Romance', that featured modern made vintage-style looks. These eclectic ensembles are great examples of how to layer for the Fall season with cute but classic pieces. Enjoy!

Amy Butler's Love

Amy Butler has a new line of fabrics called Love, that has recently been released. They are inspired by her recent trips to England and Indonesia and I have to say that with my love of all things British, this line does remind me of the old English countryside. Here are some of my favorites from the line. Enjoy!

Cold Weather Tights

Now that cold weather is upon Alabama (30s and 40s this weekend) I am ready to get out my tights to wear. Here are some I have spotted that I'd like to add to my expanding collection. Hope you have a great weekend and are staying warm wherever you are!

Acorn Bird Feeder

Look at this great idea I saw over at Design*Sponge yesterday, a DIY acorn shaped bird feeder. How cute is that! A great project to do with kids on a rainy or cold afternoon and to share with the neighborhood birds this fall and winter. Head over to D*S to check it out!

Sunshine House

Yesterday I received my November issue of Country Living (the only subscription to a magazine that I have left, as all of the others have closed down). This issue has some amazing homes featured and this New Hampshire Farmhouse is by far my favorite. It has bright sunny yellows, greens and an all around cheerful character to it. The house was constructed with the owner's family in mind and the many relatives she'd be hosting. Enjoy!

Pumpkin Patch

I am headed to the Pumpkin Patch tomorrow with a group of friends and my mom. It has become an annual outing that we all love to take. You get to take a hay ride out to the patch and pick your pumpkin from the vine. What a fun tradition that I hope we continue through the years. Have a great fall weekend!

October Calendar Print

I am really enjoying my October calendar picture from the JHill Design calendar that I have hanging in my office at work. It's a great piece called Chester City Print and features Chester, England. The tag lines with this piece are 'check the time on victoria's clock', 'eat fish 'n' chips', and 'drink a cuppa tea'. What a perfect print for the Anglophile in me!
